Check-Out Policy
Kindergarten - Students check out one book from the library each week that remains in their classroom. This gives them practice in selecting a book, learning the check-out process, and demonstrating good stewardship of the books. And, they will always have the book to return on their library day so that they will be able to get a new one.
First and Second Grade - During the first six weeks of school, students can check out one book and can choose to take it home or leave it in the classroom. After the first six weeks of school, students may have two books checked out.

4. Read with your family.
5. If you take your book home, find a safe place to keep it in your house so that you can find it when it is time to return.
6. Make sure your water bottle is tightly closed in your backpack.
7. If you go to an afterschool program, please leave your library book or books in your backpack.
Please speak with your student about a safe place to keep the books in your house, especially if you have lots of other books. Ours always has a hardcover and a CSD or Winnona Park Elementary barcode on the back. They also have a "Winnona Park Elementary School" stamp on the inside cover.

Lost Books
I send email notices regularly so that you can see what books your student has currently checked out. Books are typically checked out for one to two weeks at a time. After that, I suggest looking for the book both in the classroom and at home. We charge a flat $10 fee for each lost book, but unless you are certain the book is lost, I suggest that we tag it as a lost book but continue to let your student check out additional books. Books tend to get moved around in the classrooms and often get returned by the end of the school year. If the book is still missing at the end of the year, I will charge the fines before I leave for the summer. Fines are recorded in Infinite Campus and can be paid by cash or check or online by credit card via Infinite Campus once the school year ends. If you have any questions or concerns about lost books, please do not hesitate to email me at Ilene Zeff at izeff@csdecatur.net or come into the library.
